Bus Go Dunedin has been invited to participate in the Otago Regional Council's "Regional Policy Statement" review at the pre-draft stage, as a "key stakeholder", which is kind of them. We have to do all this in the next 2 weeks though so please read the pre-draft statement (follow the link below) and send us your comments and we will incorporate them into Bus Go Dunedin's submission. Please confine your comments to public transport issues, or regional issues for which public transport offers a valid solution.

    Success: Corsty back!

    March 12, 2014 by Nankai

The Otago Regional Council met today (Thursday, 13 March 2014).

Corstorphine is back the way it was, starting this July. We still need to campaign to get the buses to continue up the main street a bit past the Octagon.

It looks like the Peninsula service won't be cut back from Harington Point either.

Thanks everyone for ongoing support for this successful Bus Go Dunedin: Bus Users Support Group Ōtepoti Dunedin campaign.

Bus Go Dunedin has responded with a submission to the ORC on the proposed changes to the Dunedin bus service publicly notified on 28 November 2013. Our submission is based on the discussion at our meeting held on 11 December and is based around the Council's obligation to meet the needs of transport-disadvantaged people. In particular we have requested an urgent review of the present Corstorphine bus service introduced amid a huge rise in complaints in July 2013.

Inaugural Meeting of Bus Go Dunedin, held 7pm, Wednesday 13th November 2013 at 7 Montpellier Street, Dunedin.

Some matters/problems/suggestions contributed by members of the public who turned up ( Note that these are not necessarily views held by the group):

    - Have to wait half an hour in town when transferring buses.

    - There is a problem between the City Council and Regional Council. The Regional Council decides the routes, and when they change the routes there are no shelters, which are looked after by the City Council.

    - Timetables too small, hard to understand.

    - Buses are too infrequent after 6pm.

    - Want transport on Christmas Easter etc., these are days when elderly people need access.

-The St Kilda service is too infrequent.

    - focus on prov…

Dunedin environmental and social justice activists have formed a new organisation, Bus Go Dunedin: Bus Users and Supporters Group Otepoti Dunedin to support and promote Dunedin's public transport system and campaign on behalf of users for improvements to the service.

"Buses should have a key role in a modern transport system for Dunedin. Managed right, they could be a convenient travel option that is desirable to a large proportion of Dunedin's population," spokesperson Alex King said. "We are delighted that several pro-Public Transport candidates have been elected to the Dunedin City Council and Otago Regional Council and we loo…
