Route numbers on the back of the bus please!

Like many bus users, I am a walker as well. So if the weather's fine and I'm walking to my usual destinations and I notice a bus go by, I'm likely to look at my watch and take note. Because I might want to catch that bus sometimes. But it would be a big help to know what route it was.
